Caroline’s Flower-Themed 1st Birthday Party

It’s hard to believe it’s already been (over) a year! This summer our precious baby girl, Caroline, turned one! To celebrate her first birthday, we threw a festive flower-themed backyard birthday party, and we had the best time prepping for the party and celebrating with friends and family! We wanted to make sure the party was fun for not only children, but also the parents, so today we’re excited to share more about the special day.

THE THEME

Our mom introduced us to the brand Little Happies and this banner spurred the theme of the party. With Caroline’s birthday falling in the middle of summer and her middle name is my maiden name, “Flowers,” we decided to go with a floral-themed event. We had so much fun incorporating colorful daisies into the decor from fresh flowers, balloons, goodie bags, the smash cake, her birthday banner on her highchair, and the linens that were used to decorate the food & drink tables.

THE DECOR

Since Ellen makes all of the balloon decor for the parties we host (check out our Sip & See decor), she helped us decorate the space with lots and lots of balloons!  We made all of the garland the day before the event, and the girls had so much fun watching our living room explode with color. She even learned how to make daisies to go with the theme, and they were absolutely adorable! See the supplies below for how we created our own balloon decor for the backyard.

In addition, we ordered this giant number one for the front yard from a local Dallas business, and we loved how festive it was – plus it helped all of our guests easily find our home!

FOR THE CHILDREN

One thing we’ve loved about the baby birthdays we’ve attended so far is how nice it is to have a safe place for babies to play while the adults enjoy talking with their friends.  Our friend generously let us borrow their large playpen, which is suitable for many toddlers to enjoy and not feel crowded. To make this space more fun for the children, we also bought 100 balls to put in the playpen as well – which kept them very entertained!

Another thing we added to our backyard was the bubble machine we used for our wedding send off to create a whimsical feel and something fun for the kids to watch. Not only did the kids LOVE all of the bubbles, they were so cute in the photos too. Tip: I highly recommend having lots of the refillable solution on hand!

For party favors, we made goodie bags with bubbles and a snack in cellophane bags with a daisy print tied with a floral ribbon. They were easy and affordable, and the kids loved leaving with a treat to take home.

FOR THE ADULTS

For the adults, we made sure to have an assortment of drink and food options on hand. By dressing up a couple food stations, it adds some party decor to an otherwise overlooked space. We provided the caterer with these cookie cutters to cut the sandwiches into a floral shape, and we added risers and a variety of serving platters and trays to mix up the presentation. Our mom taught us these small details go a long way and we have to agree!

We also purchased this portable Sonos speaker to ensure the music flowed from inside the house to outside by pairing it with our indoor Sonos speaker system.  Don’t forget when hosting a kids party to keep the bad words out of the songs, so be sure to test out a few Spotify playlists before starting the party.

OUTDOOR TIPS

Last, when hosting an outdoor party in a hot environment, make sure to do what you can to keep your guests cool. We purchased a couple of umbrellas and a large fan to help break the heat. We also added a splash pad for the kids to enjoy towards the end of the party as a way to cool down, and they absolutely loved it.

Luckily for us, the rain stopped an hour before our party began – but always be prepared to move a party indoors in case of sudden rain!
